Veg vs. not Veg
Anyways, what struck me today is not the fight or argument about those who are vegetarian (food habits) against those who are not vegetarians. It’s about defining who is a vegetarian and who is not. Every time I have a dinner or a lunch with my non-desi colleague(s) I am confronted with the same questions. Same questions from different people and some times same people.
What am I ?
I: Vegetarian?
Q: So do you drink milk, eat butter cheese ?
I: yes, am vegetarian and not Vegan.
Q again: Ohh, so you eat chicken?
I: silent growl, no am vegetarian…not flesh eater!
Q here’s more: But I have another friend who says that he is vegetarian but eats chicken!
I: Ahem…now this is tricky. Some are vegetarian by birth (religion/up bringing) you may say, while some are vegetarian by choice. Also there is the class of those who are actually not vegetarians but have a limited flavor and eat only chicken or only fish or eggs or very something they think causes no harm to a life or a being.
.
.
.
And there are more till I finish my meal and then until the next meal with similar such people.
How would I define a vegetarian and then a vegan?
Veganism is a philosophy and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food. Vegans endeavor not to use or consume animal products of any kind. The most common reasons for becoming a vegan are ethical commitment or moral convictions concerning animal rights, the environment, human health, and spiritual or religious concerns.Of particular concern are the practices involved in factory farming and animal testing, and the intensive use of land and other resources required for animal farming. [veganism]
Vegetarianism is more of a belief in and practice of eating vegetable foods and abstaining from animal food. But the definition of Vegetarianism is very vague. Ask dozen people and you will have two dozen replies with 3 dozen explanation and interpretations. It is more of a personal choice and preference than a set philosophy or set of rules.
Next time some one asks me the same question, I need to think of some thing new and spicey or just wiki or share this post ...umm hmmm !
Hope to be alleviated from these questions for some time or hope I get to eat ice cream and chocolate…am not Vegan.

Survival...
With the experience of working/being with people from different backgrounds of experience, nationalities, education, upbringing et al, I or may be even you can say that in current state of world of fierce competition the natural law fits, “preservation of favored races in the struggle for existence”.
But what are the basis of such favorism or what are the protocols for natural ( more of artificial now) selection. One who was favored yesterday may not be favored tomorrow. It’s a continuous fight trying to improve, a fight with self to be better each day. Nature does not define the levels or extent of competition. Each day we desire to be better than yesterday and we lay more stringent deadlines or targets for self and each time we falter or fail, we whine.
The principal is “Survival of the fittest” but the abstract side of this is “What works”!
Whether you want to call it survival, dominance or superiority, the standard is simply "what works."
It’s about whatever works for you, works for your survival, fits the survival equation.
Suit yourself, suit what eventually turns out to be in your favor. Be it s personal relationship or professional assignment, its about turning the whole outcome in your favor.
From the basics, tiny kids to school children to teenagers to adults, each of us manipulate our ways for surviving. The evolution theory is merely a concept and we have managed to provide many corollaries to this theory, the theory that laid to the basis of natural selectionà struggle for existence à survival of the fittest.
The morality part of the theory is lost or is a mere fallacy. The concept was/is used as a justification for violence but the wise men put it as a concept that supports co-operation rather than competition. A competition where it’s not about being better than but about being able to swamp that are better.
The implicit/underlying meaning, does it say “treat the weak badly or ignore or neglect them”. My candid reply to this is, “I don’t know, am not in a position to comment, am trying to fit my survival”.
Am still trying to learn how long I can sustain the struggle and continue surviving…while I do have some part of my morality intact!

Aappyy new year !
Another New year 2+0+0+8, year of Rat !
By the Chinese calendar year 2008 is the year of the Rat also know by its name Wu Zhi !
What makes it special for you, my neighbor, my colleague, my friend, my family or for me?
Ahem...no body predicted that!
The news channels are a tabloids pouring out only plethora junk on how the year ahead is going to be, more so for the celebrities. What I fail to understand is how the prediction of the actor is going to have an influence on my life where he/she is no when related or linked to me…and yet I/we watch it, listen to it and that’s how am writing about it.
Just a bit for the tang !
The entire prediction THEORY is camouflaged under the veil of glamour which seems a complete farce. Each channel only trying to raise up the ladder to augment its TRP,
trying to push out its predictions whether it makes sense or non-sense.
How generic and hollow can the predictions get, some of what I heard “Students will have to study harder”, “Businessmen have to watch their investments”, “Employees will have to work hard and pay taxes”.
How I wish the last part of the so called last prediction was not so true and wish there was something more concrete to these predictions, something that at-least ushers us to a direction where you, we and I need to head for us.
